Deciding not to include a dance scene

In my previous blog posts (http://emilykellymediaa2.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/making-up-dance.html as shown below) I stated that I wanted to include a dance scene in my music video. But after more research into existing music videos, I established that this would be rather challenging as all the extras we wanted to dance in it, were not confident in dancing. This may affect the video negatively as we want it to look as professional as possible and having one or more people dancing out of time, will make the video less fluent.

Overcoming editing when our partner was absent

Majority of the time, mine and Shannon's timetables clashed so we
often had to edit when the other participant was absent.
We often facetimed if I took the mac home
and made a change but I wasn’t certain about it, so I wanted her opinion of
whether to keep it or not.
Below is an example of a slight change I
had made, so decided to video it and send it to Shannon to gain feedback

Technical difficulties- missing clips

Below is a link to a voki expressing the technical issues we faced.

Analysing music videos

Here are some questions to ask yourself to begin understanding music videos:
  • Is the music video based in real life, or does this take place in a fantasy world?
  • Is the way the artist is portrayed in the video really how that person dresses and cats in real life?
  • Consider how the musician is dressed - is that how regular people dress?
  • Consider the actions taken by the artist in the video - would they really do these things in real life?
  • What is the benefit for the musician to portray him or herself this way?
  • Does the video portray people in stereotypical ways? Are these reflections of real people or are they just one-sided characters?
  • Consider the editing - how does the frequency of cuts from shot to shot affect how you feel about the video?
  • Consider the setting - why did the director choose this location or setting?

Props ideas

Props

In most music videos sometimes props are used to illustrate the narrative, and when linking the lyrics with visuals, props are commonly used. The props in a music video add the entertainment side and can be used in a fun and imaginative way. One music video that uses props to make entertaining is ‘Telephone- Lady Gaga ft Beyonce’
In my music video I intend to use props more so in the flashback scenes of pictures of Shannon and Blane, and then use a lighter to burn the image. This will hopefully portray the narrative of her heartbreak and then overcoming it well.

Hair Inspo

Hair like makeup is depending on what is fashionable and in trend. Below is a collage I made of various celebrities who portray similar looks to how I intend my artist should be perceived:
Below I looked a several hair tutorials of how to get the looks I wish to achieve:

Makeup inspo

Everything you see in a music video is done on purpose, even down to an extra bit of highlighter or bronzer. It is important that the appearance of the actor/ artist is of good quality and can follow or even set the trend, as they will be what the auidience aspire to.
Above is an overview of makeup ideas I would like to pursue in my music video looks.
Below are some makeup tutorials, in which I intend to follow and recreate these looks:

Testing out different techniques

Today I tested out a different technique of using a green screen, it was fun and enjoyable but I decided not to use it in my music video as I want there to be a natural element to the piece and adding a green screen will only disorder this.

Choreographing our dance routine

Here is a video evidencing how we made up a dance which we intend to incorporate within our music video
This dance will include several backing dances such as Poppy and myself as seen above, We will teach this to the other dances later on
